"This is no ordinary looove, no ordinary lo-ove"

Now I can't get this song out of my head. Had to break out the SADE cd. LOL

Ms. Weaver gives us a strong African-American female character, which I loved. Alex has lost alot, more than a child and young woman should have to deal with, a childhood and military father that made her want to prove herself constantly. It makes her character closed, but vulnerable. She is battling her heart and mind when it comes to her personal life.

Alex, an ex-Special Force soldier, has found solace and repentance in teaching her young students. One of her students has caught her attention, a bright, quiet boy, who has had loss himself. When she is forced to confront his father she is not prepared for emotions and longing she feels when in his presence.

Xian is drawn to his son's teacher, after his young wife's death. He'd drowned himself in business to escape the grief. When Alex points out to him that he is neglecting his equally sad son, he is resentful and ashamed, but appreciates her caring nature. Xian has a calm, patient role in this story. His growing fondness for Alex pulls him toward her. He wants to be the one to calm her and reassure her that it's okay to let him in. Even after he's pulled into her problems, he still remains a calming presence.

When Alex finds out that her Ex-boyfriend is murdered she is drawn into something she has no clue about, but has no choice but to find out. Xian and Chou are drawn into her search for the truth unexpectedly, which makes her withdraw and consider doing what she does best.

I enjoyed this smooth story, she did a great job with the military research, giving just the right amount of action. Her main characters were well developed, and the supportive role of her other characters were just that, supportive. The plot was thought out carefully. It wrapped up easily, although she could have gone further with it if she chose. It flowed keeping my attention and turning the pages for this not so ordinary love story.

Elementary school teacher Alex Thompson, born in Japan to military parents, finally stopped trying to prove that she is as good as the son her father has always wanted. She was a member of the Army's elite DELTA force, but the dangerous missions and loss of lives took its toll on her. Her emotions are now reserved for her students; especially Chou, a young Japanese boy who has captured her heart. Suddenly Alex's quiet life is in danger; her ex-fiancé was involved in the theft and sale of a high-tech, computer security system. And a school incidence puts her in contact with Chou's father, Xian, the owner of the computer company. The two incidents are unrelated, but the timing brings unwarranted attention and suspicion on Alex; two different groups are trying to capture her.

Xian's business was his world before Alex convinced him that his son needed to know a father's love. And while Xian is impressed at the caring Alex gives his son, he is surprised to find himself captivated by this sultry, confident African-American woman. He has not been romantically involved since the death of his wife, and Alex arouses his quiescent feelings. As their emotions begin to take shape Chou is kidnapped.

NO ORDINARY LOVE is much more than a romantic story. It is an intricate tale of industrial espionage, murder, and extraordinary love. It is the blending of two different cultures and two solitary people struggling to overcome their private demons and embrace their differences. The characters will engulf readers and the intensity will hold their attention. This is a good summer read.

Fast paced thriller romance

I have to admit, I did not expect much from this book. I did not think that I would connect with the characters or even enjoy all the action, but I did! There was always something going on in the novel to help the progress of the novel along. I could relate to Alex and even fell for Xian myself. I loved that Alex was such a strong woman, yet vunerable. I loved that Xian was strong yet able to reach Alex in a way that no one else could and was not afraid to show his feelings. In my opinion, this author did a good job of making this novel not so much about an interracial couple as a novel about two people who come together, fall in love, and just happen to be from two different cultures. She does not make their differences the center of the story. She makes their feelings, emotions, and the action the center of the story. These characters have better things to worry about than the fact that they are in a love with someone from a different race. I reccommend this novel.

About the Author
Eric Bogatin received his B.S. in physics from MIT in 1976 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1980. For more than thirty years he has been active in the fields of signal integrity and interconnect design. He worked in senior engineering and management roles at AT&T Bell Labs, Raychem Corp., Sun Microsystems, and Interconnect Devices Inc.

Recognizing a need in the industry for quality technical training in signal integrity, he created Bogatin Enterprises, which has grown to be a world-leading provider of signal integrity training services. As a “Signal Integrity Evangelist,” Eric turns complexity into practical design principles, leveraging commercially available analysis techniques and measurement tools.

Over the years, he has created a number of live classes and presented to more than five thousand engineers, worldwide. These include topics on transmission lines, differential pairs, switching noise, ground bounce, the power distribution network, and EMI. Some courses cover the use of TDR and VNA measurement techniques to characterize interconnects.

In addition, Eric is a prolific author with more than three hundred publications, many posted on his web site, www.beTheSignal.com, for free download. He regularly presents at DesignCon, PCB West, Mentor User Group Meetings, and the IPC’s Designer Day annual event.

Excellent analysis of high-end signal integrity behavior

As an experienced hands-on hardware designer who possesses a lot of books that cover signal integrity issues, I find that the uniqueness of this book is that the author is able to explain very complex subjects using very clear concepts and equations. Chapters 12 and 13 were added to the original release of this book to provide key information of GHz designs. Chapter 12 describes in depth the use and interpretation of S-parameters as they apply to GHz PCB designs, and chapter 13 has an excellent treatment of the behavior, the challenges and how to overcome them to achieve a successful high-performance PDN design. I highly recommend this book for high-speed signal integrity design engineers.

Great book!

I was assigned this book for graduate coursework, and it is wonderful. I have a very limited background in signal integrity, so I can say that this book should be perfect for any electrical engineer or engineering student with a couple years of standard EE coursework under their belt. It is one of those very rare engineering textbooks that actually makes you WANT to read it. The chapters more or less build upon one another well, and ideas are presented clearly and explained well. The writing style isn't loaded down with confusing explanations. The language is very straightforward and the examples are very clear. The author chooses to explain most equations intuitively, rather than bog the reader down with intense derivations. This makes the book excellent for self study. It lacks "problem sets" in the traditional textbook sense, but that doesn't take away from the quality of the material. The author also includes numerical examples in the text throughout the chapters, but the equations are so well explained that the examples aren't really necessary. How many engineering books can you say that about?

Eric Bogatin has done a great service to anyone looking to get their feet wet in the signal integrity field by writing this book. Buy it!

Amazing book

Usually I don't write superlative reviews, but I wonder how can an engineer simply not fall in love with this book.

In my opinion, this book is _the_ definitive authority in exposing a critical set of principles, rules of thumb, and numerical approximation formulas in the field of signal integrity. Despite its apparent simplicity, the author clearly spared no efforts in making the subject at hand extremely clear to understand, especially for a hurried reader. Second, the book introduces conciseness and discipline in discussing basic terminology that is often presented in a confusing manner (such as defining various types of impedance, replacing the "thinking" around ground with one based on return paths). Also, the author is careful to point out certain conflicting notations/inconsistencies from various vendors that persist in the industry, for example when dealing with S-parameter notations. This book is simply how all the engineering books need to be written.

That said, be aware that the book has a very practical focus by distilling the subject into various tips, rules and guidelines that can be applied later on. It is certainly not a theoretical treatise, and you'll search in vain classical EM stuff like deriving the telegrapher's equations from Maxwell's or solving them. The author magically walks around the theoretical stuff, by being able to give very simple and intuitive explanations to potentially complex subjects like time analysis of transmission lines. If you really want to understand the theory, you need to complement this book with "deeper" books such as Brian Young's book (Digital Signal Integrity: Modeling and Simulation with Interconnects and Packages) or Stephen Hall's book (Advanced Signal Integrity for High-Speed Digital Designs). But if you are new to the subject, or if you want a book which provides usually quick answers to the SI problems at hand, I would definitely start with this book.

It's hard to find flaws into the book, and can provide only subjects could be expanded in a third edition. If the author is listening, I would also expected more details on stuff like:
- How to test networks/circuits with a VNA
- Various ways to interpret Smith charts and how to do impedance matching
- More discussion on how to conduct BER experiments
- More practical examples in using open-source software packages (circuit simulators such as QUCS, and 2D/3D field solvers etc) not just those that cost a fortune to license.
- More discussion for the very-high frequency domain (10GHz or more)

INDUSTRY MUST HAVE......

I followed step by step instructions, from testing & building my portfolio to networking. This book was my career bible. I was overjoyed when Crystal autographed my copy in 2003, only now do i truly realize all that she has given me through her book! I am now the personal makeup artist to Patti LaBelle and Tina Knowles. I've worked for many publications including Essence, Ocean Drive and Lucky Magazine to name a few, i have worked in television (Judge Hatchett show, appearances on Jay Leno, Tyra Banks, Rachel Ray, Wendy Williams, etc..), Music Videos (Jay-Z, Pharrell, Fat Joe, T.I, etc...) I've worked fashion shows with Stephen Burrowes and Moda in Miami, Award Shows with Kanye West & Jamie Foxx.... and so much more! I am amazed sometimes at myself when i look back at the body of worked i've established through the years, and then i look back at the beginning when i knew nothing of the industry, requirements and standards, and realize that Crystal's book truly was my start, my university if you will, for my career. SO.... Thank you Crystal!!! Not just for this book, but for every time that i came to a workshop or trade show and you offered encouraging words....

And if you need more.... Tippi Shorter wrote a review a few down.... and for those of you who don't know.... (shame on you, you will learn in the book to keep up on what's going on in the industry!!!) Great content/info; format/layout needs a little work...

I really do like this book, but its kind of a hard read because it doesn't flow very well. If you're just needing the hair or makeup sections, you have to hop around a lot because there is info for you in several different parts of the book. Also the continuous advertising is a little annoying. I felt there were too many plugs for the schools; the same ads are repeated several times throughout the book. Maybe better to just add a nice list as additional appendix. The interviews with industry professionals were great. Very real and genuine answers...no holds barred industry advice. I liked the separate lists for different types of makeup work. Love the information...invaluable, but hoping for a more cleaned-up edition in the future?

A Must Read

This book is a NECESSARY part of your career if you are serious about becoming a makeup artist, hair stylist or fashion stylist. Far too often, makeup schools will teach you how to do makeup but what they don't teach is the business of makeup. If you are going to be successful in this business, it is not enough to just be creative. You have to be about your business as well. This book gives you all the tools you need to suceed as a makeup artist, hair stylist or fashion stylist. You will learn how to build a portfolio, what is a good image and what is a bad image, how to approach agencies, how to do a comp card and marketing materials, what to look for in photographers etc. I read this book with a highlighter in one hand and a pen and note pad in the other. The information is presented in a way that is candid, upfront, and realistic.

If you are serious about becoming a makeup artist or if you even think you want to become one, you must read this book. I can't begin to tell you how valuable this book has been to me and my career as a makeup artist.

This version doesn't have the Audio part which is very important for learning the course. It has test-prep multiple questions and student resource like puzzle, matching, flash card. Should buy the old version with the audio part to make your learning more easily.

Unable to use the Access Code Provided for Online Resources

I bought this book to study for my RHIA exam and I was really interested in seeing how the online resources helped. However, when I got the book and the access code, I tried to log-in to register and the access code that was provided had already been redeemed by another user. This is disappointing and unacceptable, considering how much I paid for the book and access code, together.

Nancy M. Johnson-Martin, Ph.D., has been a consultant for assessment and early intervention following her retirement fromm the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she held positions in the Division for Disorders of Development and Learning and in the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center (now called the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute).

Susan M. Attermeier, Ph.D., PT, is a pediatric physical therapist in private practice in Hillsborough, North Carolina. She was previously Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bonnie J. Hacker, M.H.S., OTR/L, is an occupational therapist with more than 25 years of experience working with children. She holds certifications in Neurodervelopmental Therapy, Southern California Sensory Integration Tests, and Sensory Integration and Parxis Tests. She is currently the director of Emerge—A Child's Place, a pediatric clinic in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, that provides children with occupational and speech therapy services.
